Gramma Katty’s Cookies

Posted on

The title is a little funny to me because I don’t have a Gramma Katty.  I do have a beautiful and insanely talented sister, Katy.  But get this – she is having her first grandchild in January!  Well, she’s not really *having* it, but her daughter is and…you get it.  AND we just found out that it’s a BOY!!!  I still said they should name him Lizzie, but I guess he’s in a long line of III, IV, etc.,  and he’ll be a V.  Like Lizzie McFancyPants, V.  That actually has a nice ring to it.  I’ll put in another request.

Anyway, Katy is known the world over (read: our family and friends) as having THE BEST chocolate chip cookie recipe. See the above real-life picture of them.  Right?!  You want to eat a few hundred now, don’t you.   So, in light of this wonderful news regarding my sister, her daughter, and little Lizzie McFancyPants, V, I bring you the recipe.  I feel like I’m giving a long-distance dedication Casey Kasem style.  America (or wherever you, the reader, lives), this goes out to you…

1 stick butter – softened
1/2 cup and 1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 egg – beaten well, until it forms peaks*
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 3/4 cup flour
1 cup Nestle’s chocolate chips

Blend butter, sugars and vanilla.  Add beaten egg, salt, baking soda and chocolate chips.  Mix.  Form 1 1/2 inch balls; press down lightly.  Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes.

*Note from Gramma Katty – the peaks come into play when beating the beaten egg into the mixture, not by itself.  Thanks Gramma!

  1. Nuts! There are definitely nuts in that picture (pecans?), but none in the recipe.

  2. The peaks come into play when beating the beaten egg into the mixture, not by itself.
